Mission

The congregation of Monaghan is called to mission to our Monaghan family, our Dillsburg community, other areas of the United States and across the world. Through our mission efforts, we attempt to witness to our faith by attending to people's spiritual needs and working to improve their human condition.

Our call to mission involves the engagement of our whole selves-heart, mind and hands in mission to God's people. We strive to understand the needs of the larger world while using our human and financial resources for the benefit of the Dillsburg community and beyond.

As a growing community, we are always looking for more opportunities. Please help us by providing suggestions for additional mission and outreach activities. Monthly committee meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

Mission Central
Voluteers gather monthly on the second Monday at the church at 8:30 a.m. to carpool to Mission Central in Mechanicsburg - a Disaster Relief Agency. This is a hands-on opportunity to do easy work at a warehouse where mountains of disaster relief supplies are stored until being distributed. They use volunteers like us to put together health, layette, school and sewing kits. The kits are distributed throughout the United States and world for schools and health agencies.

New Hope Ministries
new-hope-ministries.gif New Hope Ministries is a Christian social service agency with assistance centers in Dillsburg and Mechanicsburg. New Hope provides emergency crisis assistance, food pantries, counseling and referral services to local low-income families and individuals. Monaghan supports New Hope through financial contributions, weekly food pantry donations, and volunteering at their fundraising events and community outreach programs.

Summer Work Camp
High school youth and adults travel to other areas of the United States to do hands-on mission work such constructing wheelchair ramps, house painting, and basic household improvements. Most recently, Monaghan Presbyterian worked in Cumberland, MD with the NAILS organization. During summer 2005, another group traveled to Florida for Hurricane Charlie relief efforts.

Global Mission Programs

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is at work on your behalf, coordinating our church wide response to the hurricanes and other disasters throughout the world.

Honduras Medical Mission
For the past two years, Monaghan members have traveled to Honduras to participate in a medical mission trip organized by Gettysburg Presbyterian Church through CURE International. The Monaghan congregation has supported these volunteer efforts by contributing to the Honduras Emergency Medical Fund, which funds surgeries that are too complicated to perform on-site at the clinic. Patients using these funds are referred to local doctors and hospitals to cure ailments like cleft pallet and club foot.

Lend-A-Hand
The Carlisle Presbytery organizes monthly bus trips to Mississippi for hurricane relief. Volunteers from our Presbytery have been helping with cleanup, building and repair in the regions that experienced hurricane devastation. Those unable to volunteer have supported Lend-A-Hand with prayers for these efforts and financial contributions, as funding is an ongoing issue in continuing these trips. Those interested in supporting Lend-A-Hand missions may call (877) 211-0700 or (717) 731-8888.
